Information:
The Fajara Skills Development Centre (FSDC) was founded in
Gambia in 1999 and its curriculum is aimed at women, housewives
and youths who, through factors beyond their control, never
completed their formal education.
FSDC's aim is to expand the activities of the center by teaching
courses that addresses the needs of young people and give
them an opportunity for economic independence and increase
their chances of finding gainful employment.
Program Courses:
• Commerce
Provides pupils with entrepreneurial tuition on how to start
a business in Gambia, how to create a business plan, start-up
capital, profit and loss accounts and customer care.
• Computer Literacy & Secretarial
Course
Here they learn typing, secretarial duties and general office
duties.
• English & French Language
Basic literacy training.
• Hairdressing & beauty therapy
This course entails hair cutting, cleaning, conditioning,
styling, weaving and attaching hair extensions. They also
learn how to make locally produced cosmetics.
• Fine Art
This course on fine art encompasses painting on canvass &
paper, tie and dye techniques, batik making, designing and
lettering.
• Home Economics
These classes teaches the skills involved in food hygiene
preparation, preservation techniques and the dangers of bacterial
contamination of meals. The students also learn how to dust,
clean and keep their home clean more effectively.
• Science
Health orientated classes covering nutrition, sexually transmitted
diseases (STDs) such as syphilis, HIV/Aids and gonorrhea,
simple hygiene, health and safety.
• Sewing & Tailoring
This course teaches sewing and free-hand cutting with scissors.
