GAMCO is a joint private-public company engaged in the purchase of groundnuts from peanut farmers in The Gambia and to produce crude groundnut oil for export and the production of vegetable oil for the local market.

Before the start of the 2004/2005 groundnut marketing season, the Gambia Government commissioned a study which recommended the setting up of only one marketing company to buy, process and sell via exports the nation's yearly crop. The result was that GAMCO was established by local parastatals along with a Nigerian partner responsible for providing a 150 metric tonne a day groundnut pressing plant at Sarro, near Denton Bridge, Banjul.
