Introduction:
Colleges and universities in Britain have long been the preferred
choice for overseas students from The Gambia. From the top research
universities, to colleges which develop the most current developments
in vocational study, the UK educates under-graduates and post-graduates
to the highest of standards.
Universities and colleges in the UK have staff that specialise
in assisting foreign students, and all British universities have
a wide range of services and facilities on campus. Many offer
international students university accommodation for their first
year of study, with accommodation offices to assist in the other
years.
University Courses In The UK:
Most undergraduate courses in Britain take only three years to
finish, while diplomas & masters degrees usually take one
year. The types of courses are HNC, HND, Dip HE, Foundation degrees
FdA, FdSc, Batchelor's degrees and Master's degrees.
Studying in the UK:
A UK undergraduate course gives you a wonderful opportunity
to concentrate on a subject that interests you the most. You can
choose from thousands of UK courses in business, law (LLB), medicine,
computing, science and technology, art and design, social sciences
and many others.
The wide range of undergraduate courses in the Britain gives you
a large amount of flexibility. You can enrol on a bachelor's degree
from the start, or you can begin by taking a two-year HND or foundation
degree and then finish it off with a degree later on. You can
study a single honours degree and focus just on one subject, or
study two subjects in a combined honours degree or joint honours.
Overseas Scholarships & Funding:
Each year many international students depend on scholarships awarded
by the British Government to help them study in the UK. Whilst
competition is tight for particular scholarships, the British
council actively encourages undergrads to apply. You should also
contact the nearest British Council office in Gambia, which should
have details of scholarship schemes and will also be able to give
you information on educational courses and on living in Britain.
If there is no British Council office, then contact the British
Embassy in Fajara.
