Review:
As you approach the
Bijilo Beach Hotel road entrance from the Bertil Harding
Highway (Kombo Coastal Road) you are immediately struck
by the retreat's relative seclusion and by how unimposing
the main entrance is. However, you are soon impressed
as you pass through the small reception and out onto
the main complex. To your left and right are grand,
imposing room blocks offering unsurpassed vistas of
the Atlantic beach and ocean. The beach area itself
is clean and wide with a variety of rhun palms and
coconut trees at the front end.
There is a fairly large, clean, irregularly shaped
swimming pool at the centre of the sloping lawns and
walkways. There is no lack of sunbathing terraces
whether you choose to use a deckchair on the paved
areas or sun loungers on the cool grass.
The beach side Ocean Bay restaurant is highly recommended.
For starters it is semi-enclosed and there are large
louvered windows on the ocean side allowing you plenty
of sea breezes as you enjoy a full and wide menu which
is generous with seafood dishes. There is also the
Clay Roof Restaurant with its intimate atmosphere
overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and serving a wide
variety of tasty international cuisine and Gambian
specials. Vegetarian options are available on request.
The accommodation suites are well furnished, clean
as well as providing all the facilities you would
expect from a beach hotel in Banjul. The staff are
particularly attentive your every requirement, even
willing to do small errands for you so you don't have
to disrupt any minute of your peaceful, relaxing vacation.
The Bijilo area itself is situated away from the tourist
hotspot of Kololi (less than 7 minutes drive) so there
is very little night life or other amenities nearby.
This however, is easily overcome as there are green
tourist taxis parked within the hotel's car park and
their rates are published at the reception desk. The
apartment rooms at Bijilo Beach Hotel are especially
suited for families. |
