Review:
Leo's
Beach Hotel,
which opened its doors in Gambia on 1st January 2013,
is a high standard boutique accommodation located
in a quiet residential area of Brufut Heights. The
building is near the edge of a short cliff giving
you almost unrivalled sea views from the rooms.
The accommodation's architecture and furnishings are
very modern with touches of Africa in the landscaping
such as the semi-brick Bantaba facing the sea.
Leo's
lodge is run on eco-friendly principles. To that end
they have installed a
20 kilowatt PV system to provide electricity as well
as using a solar water heating system to provide running
hot water throughout. They have also extensively fitted
energy saving appliances and fittings to minimize
their use of energy
while maintaining levels of comfort and convenience.
Background:
The idea behind the lodge was the brainchild of a
friendly
Austrian couple named Nina and Alois Weiss
who visited the Gambia for the first time in 2009.
They were immediately captured by the country and
its people. So, the following year they acquired a
small plot of land on the beach in Brufut. In November,
2011, construction began in earnest and the structure
and finishing was completed in a little over a year.
Directions:
To get to the place you go south from the Brusubi
Turntable and take the dirt path from the Right Choice
Supermarket towards the beach. It's near Tranquil
Village and just a stone's throw to the Gambia Coral
Beach Hotel & Spa.
Note:
The tourist accommodation is not suitable for children
under 16 years.
Room rates are charged per room, per night and includes
a continental breakfast. |
