Review:
Bamboo Garden Hotel is a 3 star tourist
hotel in Gambia which is 100m to Kololi beach
and opened its doors in 2013. It is located
near the Djeliba and SunSwing Beach Hotel &
Resort on Seaview Plaza.
The accommodation has a uniquely designed interior
featuring local tribal influences of the Fulani
and Mandingo. Both the standard, suites and
deluxe rooms have an individually controlled
air-conditioning unit, a flat screen satellite
TV with a good range of international channels,
a mini-bar, direct-dial phone and various bathroom
amenities.
The beds are comfortable and come in
bamboo, wood and even upholstered while many
come with individually painted African artwork
featuring people, nature, masks etc., just above
the headboard, giving you the feeling of being
well away from home. Do be careful of the bamboo
beds as you might be prone to scratching
yourself.
If you fancy doing your own self-catering then
you might want to opt for the round huts located
in the garden area. Each has a kitchenette and
small fridge as well as the other facilities
such as TV, phone, AC and shower room with sink
and toilet.
As with many relatively new accommodation in
Gambia the Bamboo Garden Hotel does suffer from
a few teething problems but on the whole the
place is kept quite clean and the staff are
fairly attentive and friendly. The management
have sometimes been known to be a bit brusque
with guests who complain and it has been known
to overbook it's available rooms during the
winter holiday peak season.
The breakfast is not exceptional so if your
idea of an ideal start to your day is a good,
hearty breakfast then you might want to consider
getting out early and visiting one of the nearby
restaurants instead. The dining room is a little
too small for the peak season so do arrive early
or you might have to wait for a vacant table.
Do note that the air-conditioning is extra and
it can get quite hot during some days but there
are fans. However, the place is good value for
money on the whole.
Nearby the complex are various shops and restaurants
and if you make your way down to the beach there
is a fantastically lively bar and restaurant
at the weekends called Poco Loco which is right
on the beach! On Sunday afternoons it is full
to capacity.
