• Review: The 3 star Bakotu Hotel was built in 1976 by an enterprising Swede. Its rooms are in octagonal 2 storey buildings or housing blocks and each room is individually decorated and often differ in size to allow for different preferences. They come in either twin or double and family rooms have bunk beds for the kids. The best suites are on the upper levels, away from the street, and you get your own private veranda, some with ocean views. A 'Standard' room sleeps up to 3 guests. Evening entertainment performed at the Captain's Table.

• Review: A popular 3 star tourist-class accommodation with 110 apartments and 12 Deluxe apartments (deluxe has air-conditioning, TV) all with private bathroom, kitchenette, fridge and living area. The family-friendly BB Hotel has a children's section pool, playground, souvenir shop, mini-market, an a la carte restaurant and beach bar. Since being built in 1973, BB has garnered a devoted clientele, mostly of young families and EU retirees, and has many experienced, friendly staff. The apartments in painted white blocks of four storeys are well furnished, with a Nordic style lounge, and optional air-conditioning, but they are a little too compact in size; better choices can be found further down the coast.

Kadjendo Guest House

The guest house is a 3 storey accommodation block with single, double and triple bedrooms suitable for solo travellers, couples and families - children up to 3 years old can stay for free. Kadjendo is just off the Badala Highway.

• Review: Since opening in 1983, the formerly named Novotel, has become popular among young European package tourists. This busy 4 star hotel has lots of activities, and is located on a good stretch of seafront. The ambience in Kombo Beach is mass-market, with four blocks of 250 rooms devised to a recognisable international blueprint. Room choices are suitable for single travellers, couples and family groups. A Standard room sleeps 2 guests and with an extra bed sleeps 3.

Location: Residential, near Kololi, Palma Rima

The guest house, which is 200m to the main road, has 5 self-catering mini-bungalows with 1 or 2 bedrooms each, located in a residential area. Both have a private shower, running hot water, wash-hand basin, flushing toilet bowl, kitchenette, satellite TV, living room with ceiling fan and patio at the front door. The property has a back-up power generator and a reserve water tank. The bungalows are situated in a tranquil residential locality on a sandy street, and is within easy walking distance to the Palma Rima junction, with its road leading directly to the beach. Nearby are also diners, bars, supermarkets and other stores.

• Review: The 2 star Palm Beach Hotel has been welcoming guests since Christmas 2001, when it finally opened its doors to its first foreign arrivals. The accommodation is set within lush tropical gardens of dense bushes, palm and fruit trees. The interior decoration and ambience in its public places is more African than the other accommodations in the vicinity. Each simply furnished room is in 2 storey villas with private veranda / terrace. Each room has a double bed, its own bathroom or shower plus wash basin and WC, as well as a satellite TV and mini-fridge.

Sabena's Guest House



Location: Kotu South, 2.5 km to the beach

The guest house is reasonably priced and has 3 en-suite bedrooms, each with a double bed and vertical stand fan. It also has a shared kitchen and lounge with a television.

• Review: The tourist resort was built in 1979, and is on a stretch of tidy beachfront, relatively isolated, with an adjacent stream adding a scenic backdrop to the complex. Most of the rooms are in somewhat stifling and minimalist bungalows in regimental style rows, but the accommodation is reasonably furnished and clean. Sunset Beach has several room configuration choices with double or twin beds. A 'Standard' room sleep 2 (& up to 3 guests with extra bed), an 'Apartment' sleeps 4 people and has a kitchen and lounge.

Wavecrest Hotel



Location: Kotu, quiet area, 200m to coastal highy.
