The
Gambian Trust Agency For Rural Development is an NGO
which was established in the village of Gunjur
in the year 1998. Prior to 1998 the rural development
agency was named the Forbes Trust The Gambia. It was
initially founded to manage development projects for
the charity called the Marlborough Brandt Group.
TARUD is a member of TANGO,
otherwise known as The Association of Non-Governmental
Organisations. It aims to satisfy the needs of the local
community of Gunjur as well as it immediate surrounds.
This is in the form of initiatives that enhances
economic and social potential. The areas it focuses
on are water and hygiene, nursery childhood development,
general health and earning capacity.
TARUD is administered by a panel of trustees and employs
20 people in project execution and nursery education
as well as around 25 people to run reading projects.
It is also happy to take on volunteers and accepts money
from individuals who want to donate money.
Directions:
Take the Kombo Coastal Road heading south from Banjul
for about 27 km from Kololi. Go past Sanyang and it's
at the next village. |
