Information:
The African art gallery displays unique works in an
original building, selling curiosities and a range of
fabulous, eclectic collection of art, antiquities such
as ritual masks, bronzes, textiles, Ashanti wooden stools
from Ghana, West African jewellery and clothes.
The proprietor imports artwork from various African
countries including Mali, Senegal, Nigeria and Ghana.
As you approach the arts complex the first sign of art
is the building itself! This is a one-of-a-kind structure
with the frontage featuring silver and ochre coloured
tubular pillars and decorated black handrails that adorn
the centre.
Aside from the divers art collection on display there
is also a hairdressing salon and a restaurant called
the the YOK Art Cafe.
If you are an African art connoisseur and wish to take
home special souvenirs and antiques offering better
long-term value than the usual tourist craft purchases
from The Gambia, then the African Living Art Centre
should be on of you first places to visit.
Directions:
From the Fajara section of Kairaba Avenue take a right
hand turn at the Sabena Junction and go up the Garba
Jahumpa Road and go up for about 250 metres. The ALAC
arts establishment is situated on the left hand side
of the road. |
