Information:
The Point Newspaper Company Ltd. was founded by Gambians
Deyda Hydara, Baboucarr Gaye, and Papa Saine (Managing
Director & Editor ) on the 16th December, 1991.
It is an independent, privately owned publication.
The co-publisher & journalist, Deyda Hydara, was
murdered by unknown killers on the 16th of December,
2004. The vacancy left after his death was filled in
by his spouse Maria Hydara.
The paper used to be printed occasionally during the
week and since 2006 is now published on a daily basis.
The Point first started its online edition in August
2005 under the domain www.thepoint.gm and has remained
one of several Gambian newspapers on the internet.
Style & Coverage:
Its columns coverage includes political news, The Bite,
Christian Panorama, vacancies, Muslim Hands, She She
She and other areas. The paper champions different opinions,
human rights and issues affecting democracy in Gambia.
Awards:
The The Point received an International Press Freedom
Award (John Philip Palm) at the end of 2006 for its
journalistic efforts which was received by the editor-in-chief. |
