majority of charter flights from London Gatwick Airport
(LGW) to Banjul International Airport (BJL) in Yundum
fly to The Gambia mainly in the autumn and winter months
of the tourist season which runs from October, November,
December and through January to May.
There are various chartered flights provided by several
international airlines, among them are Titan Airways,
Thomas Cook Airlines, Small Planet Airlines (under Gambia
Experience). These flight operators use the South and
North terminals.
There are also summer flights to Banjul Airport (Yundum)
which are operated by Titan Airways (direct) and Royal
Air Maroc. An alternative is Brussels Airlines which
departs from Heathrow Airport.
Charter Flight Operators: • Gambia Experience
The travel company charters twice weekly flights to
Banjul during the winter and summer. Additionally, during
the winter, it provides twice weekly flights from Manchester
and Birmingham. They have a dedicated check-in desk
for faster check-in times and convenience. Furthermore
you can buy a flights only deal - one-way or return.
The Gambia Experience can offer holiday insurance policies
at zero excess (except Personal Liability).
Titan Airways
The legroom in economy class is larger compared to other
airlines flying to Banjul, and seats are pre-allocated
at no extra cost. Furthermore, at the front of the aircraft,
they offer an upgraded: Star Plus and Star Class giving
you some extras both on-board and at the airport, including
an increased luggage allowance (10kg hand baggage and
30kg hold baggage - 40kg for Star Plus travellers).
Summer flights offer more space and exit seats while
winter flights departing from Birmingham and Manchester
provide more legroom and exit seats, all available at
extra cost.
You will fly in a modern A320 aircraft. There are a
restricted seat numbers in the separate front cabin
with a 30kg to 40kg luggage allowance, toilet, upgraded
meals and free drinks service. The passenger seats are
in a 2-2 layout.
The B767 aircraft offers all the services above, however
it is a one cabin airliner so Star seats are alloted
at the forward of the cabin. With its 2-3-2 configuration,
passengers have the option of either aisle / window
seating or 3 seats between 2 in the middle of the cabin.
The Gambia Experience is the largest package tour operator
to The Gambia and maintains its own resort office located
inside the Senegambia Beach Hotel, and is staffed by
a sizeable, experienced team.
As an upgrade passengers have access to the air-conditioned
First Class Lounge in Banjul Airport for passengers
flying to Birmingham, Manchester, and to Gatwick (included
for Star Plus / Star Class passengers).
Children under 12 get an airfare discount while infants
under 2 can fly at a reduced fare but don't get a seat
and are only allowed a smaller baggage allowance than
adults.
Alternative Flight Routes:
There are a number of airlines offering direct and indirect
flights from London to Dakar in Senegal. From Dakar
you can board the airport's air shuttle service operated
by Senegal's national carrier, Senegal Airlines, for
the around 30 minute trip. [In 2018 these carriers are
TAP Air Portugal, Tunisair, TUI Binter Canarias, Air
France + Vueling Airlines.]
Cost Cutting Tip:
Generally, the earlier you book your ticket the lower
the airfare. If you are a travelling from the United
Kingdom and are searching for a summer flight (low season)
to Banjul then the cheapest option might be to consider
flying via a transit route to Barcelona or Madrid or
with a low-cost airline as opposed to a direct flight
from London Gatwick.
Extra Information:
When flying to Banjul (duration about 5 hours 45 minutes)
most of the check-in areas are on the second floor of
the south terminal (check your ticket). To find your
check-in zone, look up your airline on the information
screens near the entrance. Check-in zones are clearly
indicated by illuminated boxes. For checking-in times
read your check your ticket or contact your airline
for information.
