Introduction: The
Kayira Beach Resort, is in the North Bank Region of
the Lower Niumi District on Jinack Island, in The Gambia,
West Africa. The island is part of the Niumi National
Park. The resort was established in January 2006 to
cater for the increasing demand for eco-tourists visiting
the island.
Accommodation:
Suitable only for an overnight stay, simple huts on
the beach. Take along a good torch, facilities are minimal.
Beach Area:
Variable: narrow at high tide and broad at low tide.
Sand to the sides of and behind the accommodation.
Bar & Restaurant:
African lunch / English barbecues every night and all
drinks (beer and soft) included, fish caught from the
local beach.
Tourist Attractions & Things To Do: Paradise
Island Tours Gambia Ltd., offers specialised day and
overnight trips to 'Paradise Island' and Kayira Beach
Resort. They travel in open top Land Rovers or air conditioned
mini buses and our own boat. Each driver is an experienced
safari driver. You will be accompanied by a guide. They
can tailor make trips to your specifications especially
for fishing and bird watching enthusiasts.
Travel Information:
To get to the Kayira Beach Resort you can go directly
by boat from Banjul capital or take the ferry
up to Barra and ask a taxi to take you to Jinack.
Aside from prepared food, amenities such as shops are
virtually non-existent. Therefore read some advice about
what to pack.
