The most popular hotel resort location in The Gambia is Kololi, in particular the Senegambia area of Kololi, which is in Kombo North in the West Coast Region.

This is closely followed by the adjacent Kotu, which is immediately to the north east.

The next most popular holiday resort areas are:
Bijilo, Brufut,

Cape Point, Fajara & Kerr Serign.

Within all the above mentioned locations there are pockets of tranquillity which have guest houses & lodges located in residential areas. Fajara, Bijilo & Cape Point are relatively less concentrated with tourists as opposed to Kololi & Kotu. The above resorts are all are stretched along the coastal strip 10 km long.

The capital of Banjul has just 1 tourist-class hotel which is the excellent 4 star Atlantic Hotel. The Palm Grove is no longer in operation. Banjul is mostly hot, dusty, with virtually non-existant evening entertainment, little in the way of evening taxis and not a place you would immediately consider staying in. However, there are other types of hotels in Banjul which are not geared towards tourists, but to Africans & regional travellers.

Most of the major hotel resorts are located on the Atlantic Ocean coastal strip, from Banjul south down to Brufut. NOTE: Serrekunda is NOT a holiday hotel resort area, and very few tourists actually stay in this large town with no nearby beaches, even though many websites refer to it as an accommodation area. Even here there are some hotels in Serrekunda geared towards West African travellers and those seeking a more African experience.

The most secluded areas with near deserted beaches along the west coast region:

Gunjur, Kartong & Sanyang

There are other locations, which includes areas further away from the coast or upriver such as the luxury Mandina Lodges which is on the banks of a river & 45 minutes from the airport.
