Information:
There
are now over 24 members of the Gambia Hotel Association (GHA)
whose membership now includes nearly 80% of the main tourists
hotels such as the Senegambia
Beach & Kairaba
Hotel in Kololi as well as the resorts
of Kotu and Bijilo.
It is a board encompassing the Gambian hotel resort
operators, breakfast business owners & and tour operators.
The GHA's main goals are to develop and promote the tourism
sector in the Gambia in partnership with the relevant Government
agencies such as the GTA and the Department of State for Tourism
as well as with with other interested groups. Furthermore,
they aim to provide a consistent level of service at each
of the hotels.
Meetings:
Each month representatives from each of the establishments
hold a meeting to talk about issues affecting them and address
challenges and problems facing the industry. At the end of
every year an AGM is held in which a review of the past years
accomplishments and forecasts for the up-coming year are deliberated.
Names are also put forward for the election of members to
the executive committee.
Activities & Events:
As an important player in the hospitality service the association
jointly takes part in international tourism shows such at
the International Tourism Bourse (ITB Berlin) and the World
Travel Market (WTM) held in the United Kingdom, London. The
Gambia Tourism Authority (GTA) is charged with organising
these visits.
Education:
The GHA provides financial assistance for the Government owned
Gambia Hotels School on MDI Road in Kanifing (Tel: (+220)
4392264, Fax: (+220) 4227753) which is the only educational
institution providing training related to tourism.
The GHA has been co-operating with the Dutch based voluntary
organisation called PUM in training of local staff via their
volunteer experts in the areas of hotel marketing, information
technology booking / HR software, specialised cooking and
customer service fundamentals and basics.
